Copper Whirligig

Artist’s Narrative:

I set out to capture the nostalgic essence of a rustic prairie windmill, reimagined through the warmth of hand-worked copper. To begin with, I hand-textured the upper triangular sail with swirling patterns. As a result, it catches the sunlight as it steers the piece in the breeze. Furthermore, I carefully angled each windmill blade to create a smooth, mesmerizing rotation. This mimics the functional beauty of the real thing when spinning.

In addition to the movement, I used a flame-painting technique on the lower windmill section. This draws out deep, earthy hues that contrast beautifully with the bright copper blades. Moreover, I selected a sequence of cool-toned beads and a heavy natural stone for the tail. These provide the necessary tension for stable spinning. Ultimately, I created this piece to offer a sense of rhythmic peace. As a result, every passing gust of wind becomes a small moment of art.
