Copper Whirligig

Artist’s Narrative:

I envisioned this piece as a celebration of the quiet, watchful moments we share with nature in our own backyards. To begin with, I hand-hammered the copper to give the gnome a weathered, soulful character. It feels as though he has lived in the garden for years. Furthermore, I perched a tiny copper companion upon his hat to represent the curious bond between the earth and the sky.

As the wind picks up, the entire piece begins its rhythmic dance, spinning freely. This motion reveals the shifting colors of the flame-painted finish. Additionally, I hand-strung a collection of earthy stones and glass beads that trail below, catching the sunlight and adding a vertical grace to the movement. Ultimately, I created this whirligig to bring a sense of life and playfulness to your garden, even on the quietest days.
