Copper Whirligig

Artist’s Narrative:

“There is something grounding about hand-shearing copper to find the shape of a creature like this sea turtle. I wanted to capture the steady energy of the ocean’s patient traveler, but with a kinetic twist. The triangular element above the turtle features swirling patina patterns that come to life as the whirligig spins in the wind, mimicking the gentle eddies and currents of the sea.

Every surface is carefully patinated to create an organic finish that feels polished by the tides. I finished the piece with a strand of beads in shades of turquoise and sea-foam green. When hung outdoors or near a window, the motion transforms the heavy copper into something light and graceful—a tribute to the quiet resilience of the sea.”
